Grades of Containers
Cargo containers come in three different grades: Wind + Water Tight, Cargo Worthy, and One-trip.

One-trip
One-trip grade containers are recently manufactured units that are shipped from China, with cargo inside, to the United States. Units will have minor scuffs, dents, and scratches but will overall be in excellent condition. This grade is recommended for container homes due to their excellent appearance and condition. These containers will last many years with minimal upkeep.

Cargo Worthy
Cargo worthy containers are deemed still "sea-worthy" by an inspector. These are used containers that have been sent back and forth for many years. Rust, dents, and some minor patches will be commonly found on these units. Regular inspections and maintenance will facilitate longevity of these containers, including maintaining door hinges to keep them from seizing over time.

Wind + Water Tight
Wind and Water Tight cargo containers can be considered "retired" from sea life, meaning these units do not meet the requirements for shipping cargo on the ocean anymore. These units will be weather and rodent proof. Significant rust, dents, faded paint, and patches will be common among these units. Regular inspections and maintenance will facilitate longevity of these containers, including maintaining door hinges to keep them from seizing over time.
